The Project
Denmark Hill is one of the 148 railway stations in Britain to receive funding as part of the Government's £370m Access for All Scheme.
WEC Rail won the contract to manufacture and install the brand new Access for All footbridge and three new lifts at Denmark Hill, on behalf of Network Raill. All of which needed to include CCTV and telephone links. The value for this project were £875,000.
The Outcome
Passengers at Denmark Hill Railway Station make around 3.1 million journeys every year, meaning it's important for the platforms to be easily accessible.
The brand new footbridge and connecting lifts make it easier for those passengers such as the elderly, disabled and parents with young children to use the train services. Improving the access around Denmark Hill station was important for all members of the local community, given the proximity of the station to two significant hospitals.
Dave Ward, Network Rail's route director for Kent, said: "An important part of building a bigger and better railway is to make it easier for everyone to use. The installation of lifts at Denmark Hill is great news for passengers and a big boost for the community and businesses, as well as those visiting nearby King's College and Maudsley hospitals."
