Cambridge | Case Study

Client: Morgan Sindall
Location: Cambridge
On behalf of: Network Rail
Value: £755,000

The Project

Cambridge railway station sees thousands of passengers a day. As a way of improving accessibility for all passengers, especially those with disabilities and the elderly, the railway station needed easier ways for people to get around.

The Outcome

WEC Rail manufactured and installed a brand new 15-tonne footbridge with connecting lifts. The installation has significantly improved the accessibility around Cambridge Railway Station, making it much easier for those with reduced mobility to get from one side of the station to the other.

The Access for All Scheme is a major programme by Network Rail, existing to improve accessibility at train stations nationwide.

Andrew Munden, Network Rail route director, said: "The pace of change at Cambridge over the last few months has been quite astonishing. These improvements are part of an investment programme which will see the station and surrounding area transformed over the coming years."

Our team of designers and engineers are able to design and manufacture even the most complex and bespoke footbridges by installing lifts, footbridges and ramps.

The WEC Rail expert design team have designed structures to suit many requirements, these range from generic designs providing the client with flexibility of use, to highly complex bespoke structures designed specifically to overcome unique location difficulties.
